Mesut Ozil’s entourage are confident that Manchester United want to sign the German on a free transfer at the end of the season.

The 29-year-old is out of contract in the summer and has turned down a £265,000-a-week deal to stay with the Gunners.

Arsene Wenger maintains he wants to keep the Germany international in north London but the Gunners could be tempted to cash in in January if Ozil makes it apparent that he will walk out for free six months later.

Interest in the German was scarce last summer as clubs turned their noses up at paying a huge sum for a player that was entering the final year of his contract.

However, Manchester United are thought to be heading the interest in Ozil and the Daily Mirror claim the attacker’s entourage are confident of a move to Old Trafford.

United are one of three clubs that Ozil is said to be willing to leave Arsenal for.

Former club Real Madrid and La Liga giants Barcelona are believed to be the others.
