Antonio Conte is set to axe David Luiz from Chelsea’s matchday squad to face Manchester United after a furious bust up, according to reports.

The Italian manager was livid with his side’s performance against Roma in the Champions League, with Luiz given a particular dressing down during an ‘angry inquest’.

And now The Sun say Conte is so furious with the Brazilian defender he will omit him entirely from his squad to face United, with Andreas Christensen expected to take his place.

Chelsea have been preparing to play their usual back three against United in training, but in the final session before Sunday’s massive match it was Christensen who was picked over Luiz.

According to the report, there has been noticeable tension between Conte and Luiz all week following the Roma fallout, though Chelsea have tried to play it down and insist no bust-up took place.

The Sun’s report claims Luiz fears for his place against United, while Conte is fully aware that dropping one of owner Roman Abramovich’s favourite players could have disastrous consequences if it backfires.

Nevertheless, the former Juventus manager is keen to shake up his side after their awful showing against Roma, in which they shipped three goals.

Meanwhile, despite saying Gary Cahill would start in his press conference, Conte could also axe the England international, who was deployed somewhat disastrously on the right-hand side of the back three rather than his usual role on the left.

Conte’s decision comes amid growing uncertain over his future at the club, with latest reports saying Abramovich has invited former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to dinner after Sunday’s game.
