Kevin De Bruyne claims pinning back Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso is crucial for any team trying to beat Chelsea.

Pep Guardiola masterminded a 1-0 victory over the Premier League champions in September with De Bruyne scoring a superb second-half winner.

City were the dominant team for much of the contest at Stamford Bridge as Antonio Conte’s side struggled to create chances.

Chelsea host Manchester United on Sunday and De Bruyne believes the positioning of Jose Mourinho’s wide players will be crucial to the result.

‘That game [against Chelsea] he [Guardiola] said to Leroy [Sane] and Raheem [Sterling] ‘you stay outside until you are in the final third and get the ball then you can do whatever you want’,’ De Bruyne told Sky Sports.

‘In the beginning you need to try to get Azpilicueta and Alonso as deep as possible, so we get like a man advantage.

‘Because that game we change it slightly with Kyle [Walker] coming [inside] and more playing like a 3-4-3 with [Fabian] Delph coming inside and David [Silva] playing more as a No.10.

‘That game it was very important they [Sterling and Sane] stay wide.’
