Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard had serious concerns about the signing of Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian arrived at Anfield from Roma during the summer in a £36million deal.
It meant Salah returning for a second spell in the Premier League having been on Chelsea’s books between 2014 and 2016.
It was that spell, in which Salah failed to make much of an impression, that led to Gerrard’s concerns.
‘I watched him a lot at Chelsea, and it didn’t really take off for him when he was a Chelsea player,’ Gerrard told BT Sport.
‘Of course he hit real top form over at Roma, but you’re thinking, “is he a player suited to the Premier League?”
‘And when he first came I, along with a lot of Liverpool fans, wasn’t totally sure how it was going to work.’
Gerrard, like Liverpool’s fans, have seen any concerns evaporate thanks to the superb form of the 25-year-old so far this season.
He scored a brace in the 4-1 win over West Ham yesterday to take his tally to 12 for the season.
‘He’s come in and he’s been absolutely top-drawer this season. He’s been Liverpool’s best player by a mile,’ said Gerrard.

Chelsea legend Frank Lampard, who was also on BT Sport, said he felt Salah struggled at Stamford Bridge as the opportunity came too early in the forward’s career.
