Chelsea legend Frank Lampard has opened the door to making a return to the club following Michael Emenalo’s unexpected departure.

Emenalo quit as the club’s technical director earlier this week and Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich is keen to replace him as quickly as possible.

Lampard hung up his boots earlier this year after an illustrious career. He spent 13 years at Chelsea and remains the club’s highest ever goalscorer.

And the 39-year-old’s admitted he would jump at the chance to work for the club again following Emenalo’s resignation.

‘I worked with Michael for seven or eight years and his role at the club coincided with the most successful period in Chelsea’s history so I think he deserves a lot of credit from that,’ said Lampard.

‘Everyone at Chelsea wishes him well as he moves on.

‘I’m a Chelsea person, I’d love to be involved with the club long-term in some way. We’ll see.’

Chelsea entered the international break on the back of a morale-boosting 1-0 win against Manchester United.

They visit West Bromwich Albion next week before a daunting trip to Anfield to face Liverpool.
