Arsenal can still catch Manchester City in the Premier League title race after their important and impressive north London derby victory over Tottenham.

That is the opinion of Granit Xhaka, who insists ‘everything is possible in football’ and says City are not guaranteed to maintain their devastating run.

Winning all but one of their 12 league fixtures this term, Pep Guardiola’s side have already opened up an eight-point gap at the top of the table with rivals Manchester United currently in second-place.

The Gunners moved to within one point of Spurs after Saturday’s 2-0 win at the Emirates and Xhaka believes the side are capable of pushing City all the way.

‘I think in football everything is possible,’ the 25-year-old Swiss midfielder told Sky Sports.

‘Manchester City, at the moment, are on a very good run, they’re doing very well and others have dropped points – which they haven’t done – but it’s conceivable that they could drop points as well.’

City have dropped just two points all season and are also unbeaten in the Champions League but Xhaka added: ‘They might not continue as they have been.

‘But our aim is just to focus on ourselves. We know we need to work and we’re convinced that we can compete at the top.
