Jose Mourinho has aimed a dig at Arsenal by sarcastically congratulating their medical team for getting Alexandre Lacazette back to fitness for the 3-1 defeat to Manchester United.

Lacazette was ruled out of Saturday’s clash at the Emirates Stadium after suffering a groin injury in the 5-0 win over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday evening.

But the France international was a surprise inclusion in Wenger’s starting XI against United, although he failed to stop Arsenal from slipping to a defeat.

Nemanja Matic was also a doubt before the game and Mourinho used his praise for the midfielder as an opportunity to fire a dig at his rivals.

Asked about Matic’s recovery, Mourinho told MUTV: ‘Great work that he did in these last couple of days, fantastic dedication by the members of the medical department who were working with him.

‘We managed to go from a maybe to a yes, he was a doubt but he managed to play 90 minutes.

‘But I think the best words must go to Arsenal’s medical department because Lacazette went from a no to a 90 minutes, and that’s great.’

Antonio Valencia and Jesse Lingard put United ahead after just 11 minutes before Lacazette struck to provide a lifeline for Arsenal shortly after half-time.

Lingard scored his second of the game to seal three points for Mourinho’s men, although some of the shine was taken away from their victory due to Paul Pogba’s red card.
