Pep Guardiola could not answer which part of David Silva’s body was injured when asked about the midfielder’s problem ahead of Manchester City’s clash with Manchester United.

Silva, 31, scored an 83rd minute winner for City in the side’s 2-1 victory over West Ham at the weekend, but Guardiola has confirmed the Spaniard will not feature Wednesday night’s Champions League encounter with Shakhtar Donetsk.

Jose Mourinho suggested Guardiola was bluffing about Silva’s injury following United’s defeat of CSKA Moscow on Tuesday evening and City’s boss fueled these suspicions with a bizarre answer at his pre-match press conference.

‘It’s…something. Something didn’t comfort him in the last minute after the goal,’ the Catalan responded when asked about Silva’s injury.

‘Before the goal he felt…something,’

When asked which specific part of Silva’s body was injured, Guardiola laughed and replied: ‘Hopefully he can be OK for Sunday.

‘It’s too big a risk for him to play today.’

Mourinho hinted that he did not believe Guardiola’s story in the aftermath of United’s 2-1 victory over CSKA.

‘The truth is Eric Bailly no chance for the weekend, Phil Jones a chance, [Marouane] Fellaini a chance, Zlatan [Ibrahimovic] a big chance, Matic is injured but will play for sure, I’m telling the truth but he will play for sure, [Michael] Carrick no chance,’ he said.

As Mourinho got up from his seat to leave the press conference, he cheekily added: ‘No stories of [Alexandre] Lacazette, David Silva… all the truth.’
