Jose Mourinho has decided he wants Sergej Milinkovic-Savic to replace Marouane Fellaini should the Belgian leave Old Trafford next summer, reports say.

Fellaini is out of contract in June and has so far refused to put pen to paper on a new deal.

The Belgian is an integral part of Mourinho’s side, but could be set to walk away on a free transfer next summer.

Manchester United are aware Fellaini could walk and Mourinho has now identified the player he wants to replace the towering Belgian.

Il Messaggero claim United scouts watched Lazio star Sergej Milinkovic-Savic over the weekend as Red Devils continue to weigh up a bid.

Mourinho is a massive fan of the 22-year-old and reports claim the United manager is ‘enchanted’ with the rising Serie A star.

Milinkovic-Savic impressed the scouts as he led a Lazio fightback from 1-0 down.

The central midfielder scored the equaliser in the 79th minute before Felipe Caicedo grabbed a late winner.

Lazio do not want to sell Milinkovic-Savic and have slapped a £88million (€100m) price tag on their player.

United have shown in the past they are willing to back Mourinho in the market with Romelu Lukaku costing upwards of £75m and Nemanja Matic arriving in a £40m deal the same summer.

Lazio will resist any moves for Milinkovic-Savic in January, with a move in the summer the most likely.

Fellaini is not expected to jump ship mid-season and Mourinho is happy to wait to sign Milinkovic-Savic.

But, the Red Devils may face competition with Liverpool having also been linked with a move for the Serbian.
