Manchester United are awaiting approval from the Vancouver Whitecaps to take Canadian prodigy Alphonso Davies on trial in January.

The 17-year-old made his debut for the club at the age of 15 and has three goals in six appearances for Canada.

Davies has attracted attention from across Europe and United are the first to make a move for winger by offering him a trial at the Theatre of Dreams.

The Whitecaps have been prepared for the interest in Davies and are willing to approve the youngster’s trip to England, according to the Sun.

United’s academy have been on a recruitment drive in the last 18 months, signing the likes of Tahith Chong, Aliou Traore and Charlie McCann.

Jose Mourinho will have to sell before he can buy in the January transfer window and the likes of Luke Shaw and Matteo Darmian appear most at risk.
