The Manchester derby came to a fiery conclusion, with Jose Mourinho alleged to be at the centre of a mass brawl between Manchester City and Manchester United players.

After Pep Guardiola’s team secured a 2-1 win at Old Trafford, it all got a bit nasty near to the dressing rooms as the players came to blows.

There have been plenty of different accounts of what happened behind the scenes and it’s tough to keep track of what exactly has been going on.

Here we take a look through what has been said across the news cycle…

Virtually every report claims that the Portuguese was the man to kick-start the melee.

He’s thought to have approached the Manchester City dressing room with accusations of over-zealous celebrations.

City goalkeeper Ederson is thought to have hit back at the United boss, which led to the pair arguing in Portuguese before Mourinho was alleged by the Guardian to have said in English: ‘You f***ing show some respect. Who are you?’

What actually hit Mourinho?

It’s said that Mourinho was covered in water and milk – although he looked pretty dry in his post-match interview immediately after the fracas – the Daily Mail offer an account that it was not quite as dramatic as that.

‘United manager had water squirted at him, was hit on the head by an empty plastic bottle and was also doused with milk from a flying carton as a melee ensued involving some 20 players and staff,’ it was reported.

Lukaku a key protagonist?

Many have reported that Lukaku was heavily involved in proceedings, while the Guardian absolved Sergio Aguero and Bernado Silva – who were outside the dressing room – of any blame.

Guardiola is also said to have been outside the melee.

Arteta covered in blood?

The Daily Mirror claimed Arteta was cut ‘just above the eye’, although the BBC stress that no punches were reported.

Spanish radio station Cedenaser claim the ‘blood pouring down his face’ was a result of a bottle thrown from Lukaku – although this is unconfirmed yet.
