Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has defended Manchester City over the post-match celebrations that sparked a brawl with Manchester United.
Following City’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford, players and staff from both teams became involved in a melee outside the changing rooms.
It’s understood to have been sparked by Jose Mourinho taking offence at the visitors’ post-match celebrations.
The Man City players were playing loud music and singing in the away dressing room, which prompted Mourinho to confront them over their behaviour.
From there, things are understood to have descended into chaos with reports of milk, bottles and punches being thrown. Man City coach Mikel Arteta was cut on the head by a flying object.
Speaking today, Liverpool manager Klopp was asked about the incident. In doing so he defended Man City’s right to celebrate the victory.
‘We’ve had one or two draws at home and I’ve heard loud music from the other side. I’ve got no problem with that.
‘Everything is allowed as long as you show the right amount of respect.’
Pep Guardiola’s side were understandably delighted with their victory extending their gap at the top of the Premier League to 11 points.
They also equalled the Premier League record for most consecutive wins, with their run now stretching to 14.
