Manchester United defender Luke Shaw thanked Jose Mourinho for his support after making his Premier League return against Bournemouth on Wednesday night.

The left-back made his first league start since April in the Red Devils’ 1-0 win against the Cherries and he impressed down United’s flank.

The 22-year-old has been fit since September but had to wait until last week’s 2-1 win against CSKA Moscow to make his first start of the season and he was rewarded for his display against the Russians with another outing against Bournemouth.

Shaw’s endured a rocky relationship with Mourinho since the Portuguese boss arrived at Old Trafford but the pair embraced one another when Shaw was withdrawn late on against the Cherries.

The Old Trafford crowd gave the defender a standing ovation and the duo’s embrace was well noted among supporters.

And Shaw took to Instagram after the game to post a photo of himself with Mourinho and thanked the manager and the supporters for the support he had received.

‘Tough game but we got the 3 points! Thanks everyone for the support,’ said Shaw.
