Pep Guardiola has launched a veiled dig at Jose Mourinho’s tactics as the fallout from the Manchester derby continues.

Speaking ahead of Manchester City’s game with Tottenham, the Spaniard named Tottenham and Chelsea as teams that stick to their footballing principals. The exclusion of Manchester United didn’t go unnoticed.

‘I think Tottenham are with Chelsea as the best team in wanting to play football,’ said the Man City manager.

‘They don’t expect their opponents [to force the play], they want to make their own game. It is another amazing test for us after games every three days.’

He continued: ‘After we have Leicester in the Carabao Cup and there is not too much time for recovery but we are ready to face them and keep that level that we show in the last period.’

Mourinho’s sometimes negative tactics were highlighted in the build-up to the Manchester derby last weekend and were then brutally exposed by Pep Guardiola’s free-flowing expansive side who won 2-1 at Old Trafford.

The win for Man City saw them match a Premier League record of 14 consecutive wins but the result was marred by reports of physical confrontations between the sides after the final whistle.
