West Brom should have been awarded a penalty during their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, says Graeme Souness.

The incident involved Ashley Young, you appeared to deliberately block James McClean who was chasing down the ball.

Young stepped across the path of the West Brom player, knocking him to the ground inside the box and allowing David De Gea to safely collect the ball.

‘You do that anywhere else on the pitch that’s a foul,’ said Liverpool legend Souness. ‘For me that’s a penalty.’

Jamie Redknapp, sitting alongside him as a pundit for Sky Sports, said: ‘I agree.’

The incident could have changed the result with it coming as West Brom were in the ascendancy. Having gone 2-0 down before half-time to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Jesse Lingard, the hosts rallied after the break.

Gareth Barry pulled a scrappy goal back but West Brom were unable to find an equaliser.
