Atletico Madrid are furious with Barcelona for ‘tapping up’ Antoine Griezmann and would prefer to sell the Frenchman to Manchester United.

Diego Simeone’s side filed an official complaint to FIFA on Tuesday after Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu met with representatives of the forward to discuss a move to the Nou Camp.

Luis Suarez became the latest Barcelona player to make a public statement about Griezmann this week in what is a clear charm offensive from the Catalans.

Griezmann has an £88million release clause in his contract but Barcelona had hoped to strike a deal for less.

However, according to the Mirror, Atletico are unhappy with Barcelona and would now prefer to sell Griezmann abroad.

That puts United as favourites to sign the forward and Griezmann came close to moving to Old Trafford last summer.

The 26-year-old rated his chances of joining the Red Devils as ‘60%’ but opted to stay in the Spanish capital after Atletico had their transfer ban upheld.

United remain interested in the former Real Sociedad man and could use Paul Pogba to convince him to move to the Theatre of Dreams.

United turned to Romelu Lukaku after Griezmann’s decision last summer but Jose Mourinho’s still keen to add a playmaker to his squad.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s been left out of eight of the last nine matchday squads and United are keen on Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil.
