Henrikh Mkhitaryan is moving closer to the Manchester United exit door after his agent made contact with Serie A giants Inter Milan, according to reports in Italy.

The Armenian has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho, not even making recent matchday squads, amid reports of a training-ground bust-up with his manager.

Mourinho also opened the door to his potential exit in the upcoming January window at a recent press conference, saying that ‘every player has a price’ when asked about departures.

And now Corriere dello Sport say Mino Raiola is trying to set up a deal that would see Mkhitaryan move to the San Siro – though it is likely to be a loan deal with an option to buy.

The playmaker has given the move his seal of approval, having become frustrated with life at Old Trafford, and inter are working hard to try and get the deal done.

United and Inter have a somewhat fraught relationship after United’s protracted – and ultimately unsuccessful – pursuit of Ivan Perisic, and the Croatian will not be part of any deal.

Inter are believed to need to offload Joao Mario in order to fund their move for Mkhitaryan, and could swap the Portugal international for PSG’s Javier Pastore.

Mkhitaryan’s increasingly likely January departure marks a rapid fall from grace for a player who started the season in record-breaking form.

He recorded five assists in his first three matches – and none since – but has lost Mourinho’s trust, replaced in the United starting XI by Jesse Lingard recently.
