Jose Mourinho will not allow Sergio Romero to leave Manchester United during the January transfer window, according to reports.

The 30-year-old is David De Gea’s back-up at Old Trafford and has not played a single minute in the Premier League this season.

Romero’s appearances have been restricted to the Champions League and the Carabao Cup and he is now worried that his place as Argentina’s No.1 goalkeeper for next year’s World Cup is under threat.

But according to The Sun, Mourinho will block Romero’s attempt to quit United in search of regular first-team football.

‘He loves it here and it is only the Argentina issue that is wanting him to just move on for a little while,’ a source at United told The Sun.

‘The thing is Jose isn’t in the mood to do anyone any favours at present and Sergio knew the score this season.’

Romero was signed on a free transfer from Sampdoria in 2015 and has made just six Premier League appearances during his time at United.
