Bristol City sent Manchester United crashing out of the League Cup on Wednesday night after a famous giant-killing Ashton Gate.

A last-gasp winner from Korey Smith set the Robins up with a semi-final clash with Manchester City.

United picked a strong starting XI – 9 of which were full internationals – but Jose Mourinho was fuming with his side afterwards and accused them of not taking the game seriously enough.

While there were plenty of poor performances in the United ranks, Matteo Darmian came in for the strongest criticism from supporters.

The Italian’s rarely impressed since joining the club from Torino in 2015 and United fans were begging Mourinho to sell him after he was torn apart by the Championship outfit.

The likes of Napoli and Inter Milan are said to be interested in Darmian and United are likely to accept a cut price for the Italian defender.

Darmian signed a four-year deal when he joined the club two years ago for £12m.
