Jose Mourinho is worried Manchester United may refuse to meet the £55million valuation of Malcom, according to reports.

The United boss is eager to bring the Brazilian to the Premier League and has ordered his club to open talks with Bordeaux.

Mourinho wants Malcom to arrive in the summer, but is fearful Ed Woodward will take a similar stance in the transfer pursuit as the United vice-chairman did with Ivan Perisic.

In that case, Woodward refused to meet or come close to Inter’s asking price and derailed any hope of the Croatian joining United last summer.

Goal claim Mourinho will urge Woodward not to make the same mistake and to do all that is necessary to bring Malcom to Old Trafford.

Mourinho is convinced Malcom is a star in the making and has been massively impressed with the forward’s progress this season.

The 20-year-old has bagged seven goals in Ligue 1 and is considered one of the top prospects in Europe, as Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus once was before he linked up with Pep Guardiola.

Malcom has also provided four assists coming in from the right wing and is valued at around £55m by his club.

Bordeaux have already insisted Malcom is going nowhere in January, but United believe a deal can be agreed in the coming month and are ready to make an opening bid of £40m.

United are happy to allow Malcom to remain at Bordeaux for the remainder of the season, but Mourinho would like an agreement sooner rather than later.

Arsenal are another side sniffing around the Brazilian and United will need to act quickly to avoid a bidding war erupting.
