Arsenal are preparing a new offer for long-term Arsenal transfer target Riyad Mahrez, according to reports in Algeria.

The Leicester City winger has been coveted by Arsene Wenger in the past and was reported to have been contacted by Arsenal’s former chief transfer negotiator Dick Law in the summer of 2016.

Arsenal were again linked with a move for Mahrez back in June with Wenger revealing he was considering bidding for the 26-year-old.

Wenger, instead, opted to keep Alexis Sanchez and Mahrez, who had handed in a transfer request, remained at Leicester having only attracted an official bid from Roma.

‘I don’t know what happened,’ Mahrez told the Daily Mail earlier this month when asked why Arsenal or Barcelona, who were also strongly credited with an interest in him, failed to make official bids during the closed season.

‘It’s football. You never know what will happen.’

Algerian outlet Le Buteur now claims that Arsenal are again considering making a move for Mahrez, whose form has improved markedly since Claude Puel replaced Craig Shakespeare as Leicester manager.

Mahrez has scored four goals in his last eight games and would again represent a possible replacement for Sanchez if the Gunners finally sanction his departure when the window reopens.
