Bayer Leverkusen have told Arsenal and Chelsea to forget about signing Leon Bailey in January.

The Jamaica Under-23 international has emerged as January target for the Premier League clubs with Arsenal reported to have jumped to the head of the queue for the 20-year-old winger.

Reports last week claimed Chelsea had already submitted a £17million bid but Leverkusen director Jonas Boldt insists any club pursuing Bailey would be wasting their time.

He told Kicker: ‘Well now the time starts again when there is some insane [transfer] talk.’

‘There is no offer for Leon. We have absolutely no thought of selling him.

‘He has a contract until 2022 – and we are on the driver’s seat.’

Asked if he planned to be busy in January ahead of Thursday’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace, Wenger said: ‘Yes, because first of all you have clubs that call you to get players on loan or to buy your players.

‘And as well I’m open-minded to any possibility to strengthen our team.’
