Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is worried his side will drop out of the top four after embarking on a poor run of form following defeat to Manchester City.

United have won just two of their last five matches since Pep Guardiola’s men put one hand on the title with a 2-1 win at Old Trafford in early December.

City’s win has had a demoralising effect on Mourinho’s men and United have accumulated just 8 points from the last 15 available in the league.

The likes of Tottenham and Chelsea have cut the gap to United in second place and sixth-placed Arsenal will move to within six points of United with a win against Crystal Palace tonight.

Mourinho was confident of mounting a title challenge at the start of the season but the 54-year-old’s been shocked by the level of improvement in Manchester City.

United will now focus on the Champions League and the FA Cup but the Daily Express claim Mourinho’s now worried about his side’s place in the top four.

Southampton travel to Old Trafford on Saturday to take on United and will be without Virgil Van Dijk.

The Dutchman sealed a £75million move to Liverpool this week.
