Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger says ‘nobody knows what will happen’ with Alexis Sanchez’s future at the club.

The Chilean is out of contract at the end of the season and was desperate to join Manchester City last summer, only for the Gunners to block his exit.

Sanchez’s performances this term have been inconsistent at best but he bagged two against Crystal Palace on Thursday in what was his finest display of the campaign so far.

Manchester City are aware that Sanchez can sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs from January 1st and could bid for the forward to avoid losing him.

However, Wenger insists Sanchez’s future is far from certain and he’s still holding out hope that he will sign a new deal.

‘First of all nobody knows what will happen really,’ said Wenger.

‘It’s difficult to speculate. At the moment we are focused on short-term, that means the next game (against West Bromwich Albion on Sunday) with the players committed and ready to fight.

‘It’s not a guarantee of how long you stay somewhere. As long as you are somewhere, you give your best.

‘I felt he was very good tonight from the first minute on, focused on the game. This kind of Sanchez is a great football player, as we know. That’s the kind of performance we want from him.’
