Jesse Lingard celebrates his goal (Reuters)

Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard used his goal celebration against Everton to send out a message.

The forward put his side 2-0 ahead at Goodison Park with a fine strike in the 81st minute.

It followed a brilliant goal from Anthony Martial earlier in the second half.

Lingard clearly wanted to send a message with his goal celebration as he raced to the touchline television camera holding his finger to his lip in a silencing gesture.

The England international even shrugged off his team-mates to make sure his message got across and gestured zipping his mouth shut.

The celebration appeared to be in response to recent criticism of Manchester United’s performances. There have also been allegations about Lingard’s private life in the press.

Later, Lingard followed up his celebration with a tweet to affirm his message.
