Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is actively pursuing a move away from Borussia Dortmund this month as Arsenal ramp up talks to sign the striker, according to reports.

The Gabon international – last season’s Bundesliga Golden Boot winner – has been identified by the Gunners as the man they want to replace Manchester United-bound Alexis Sanchez.

And now German publication Bild say that Aubameyang’s days at Dortmund are numbered, with the 28-year-old having few friends left at the club after handing in a transfer request.

Aubameyang first asked to leave Dortmund a month ago, in a meeting on December 20th ahead of a league match against Bayern Munich.

He has repeatedly asked to leave since then, and upon getting a negative response from the club suddenly claimed he was injured and flew home.

Aubameyang’s behaviour, which saw him suspended for Sunday’s goalless draw against Wolfsburg after missing a team meeting, has now left his relationship with Dortmund at breaking point.

Aware of the situation, Arsenal hope to land the forward for around £55m – though Arsene Wenger has reservations about signing him due to his recent misdemeanours.

While BVB sporting director played down a move, he stressed that Aubameyang’s behaviour must change: ‘We had a very controversial discussion. He hasn’t behaved like this for years, he’s always been very professional.

‘What has happened is very tolerable, there will be some fines, too. It’s not necessary to talk about a transfer, but it’s clear that things can’t continue like this because some important things are in jeopardy, and that there is tension inside the squad.’
