Borussia Dortmund have expressed interest in signing Olivier Giroud as Arsenal close in on a January deal for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to reports.
Prolific Gabon forward Aubameyang has scored 141 goals in 212 games for Dortmund but appears to be coming to the end of his five-year stint with the German club.
The 28-year-old was left out of Dortmund’s squad to face Wolsfburg at the weekend and reports in Germany claim he has handed in an official transfer request.
Arsenal have held interest in Aubameyang for several years and the striker has reportedly agreed personal terms over a move to the Emirates.
With Aubameyang falling out of favour at Dortmund, the Bundesliga club want to sign a replacement if he does leave and the Daily Telegraph say Giroud has emerged as a target.
Giroud has started just one Premier League match this season, playing back-up to Sanchez and summer signing Alexandre Lacazette, and was close to leaving Arsenal to sign for Everton last summer.
The France international’s agent admitted he could leave Arsenal last week – but ruled out a move to Turkey or China.
‘He listens, looks and after he will see,’ said agent Michael Manuello. ‘Leaving to leave has no use. It has to be coherent and it gives him something more.
‘He will have playing time at Arsenal, the second part of the season is important, with competitions to play, even if he is only the Europa League.
‘The clubs in Turkey? That does not interest him. China either. Leaving to earn more money is not what’s important in his state of mind.’
As Sanchez edges ever closer to a high-profile January move, Arsenal have also been linked with moves for Brazilian Malcom and Manchester United star Henrikh Mkhitarayan.
