Arsenal legend Ian Wright has questioned the proposed January transfer deals that could see Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan join the Gunners.

The duo are being strongly linked with moves to the Emirates to make up for the impending exit of Alexis Sanchez.

Borussia Dortmund striker Aubameyang is understood to be in talks with Arsenal having made up his mind he wants to leave his current club. Some reports suggest he has even handed in a transfer request.

Mkhitaryan could arrive as part of the deal that sees Sanchez depart for Manchester United. The Armenian’s agent has confirmed talks are being held but says the deal still has some way to go.

Wright has expressed concern about the players – believing they are only being signed because they’ve been offered to the club, rather than because they are the best options for Arsenal.

‘Everything that is happening is being forced on them through other people,’ Wright told Sky Sports.

‘Mkhitaryan is not a player Arsenal have been after – he’s a player that Arsenal have been handed.

‘It’s the same with Aubameyang – a couple of years ago, he was on everyone’s radar but now he’s gone a bit cold. Then all of a sudden, he’s on Arsenal’s radar – it all feels panicky for me.’

Wright believes the pair would be quality additions to Arsene Wenger’s squad, but they might struggle to make an immediate impact at the Emirates.

‘Of course they are both quality players. But if you are losing Sanchez, you need players that will hit the ground running. I’m not sure about Mkhitaryan’s state of mind right now.’

The Gunners are also being tipped to sign Bordeaux’s Brazilian forward Malcom.
