Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal will not sign Bordeaux winger Malcom before the end of the January transfer window.
The Gunners are interested in a deal for the Brazilian winger, but the Ligue 1 club have insisted this week that they have not received any bids for the player.
Reports have also claimed that Malcom has rejected a contract offer from Arsenal.
When asked about Arsenal’s attempt to sign the 20-year-old, Wenger said during his press conference on Thursday: ‘I don’t think we are close to doing that.’
Asked if Malcom will join before the January window closes, Wenger replied: ‘I don’t think so, no.’
Wenger also confirmed that Arsenal’s negotiations with Jack Wilshere over a new contract are ongoing.
‘We know what we want, we want him to stay, want him to extend,’ said the Arsenal manager.
‘After that we have to satisfy a financial agreement with jack and that’s what we’re trying to do.’
