Andreas Christensen is in danger of missing Chelsea’s EFL Cup semi-final tie against Arsenal after the defender suffered a concussion on Saturday.

The centre-back was forced to depart the action against Brighton in the Premier League after a nasty clash of heads with Shane Duffy.

Christensen played on after being assessed by the Blues medics, but referee Jon Moss noticed the Chelsea man was struggling and ordered him off the pitch.

Chelsea had no complaints despite initially deciding the defender was OK to continue.

Premier League rules introduced in 2014 state that if a player leaves the pitch with a concussion, he cannot play again for at least six days.

This would rule Christensen out of Chelsea’s clash with Arsenal on Wednesday night.

The semi-final tie is finely balanced after a goalless draw in the first leg at Stamford Bridge.

Premier League concussion rules may not extend to the EFL Cup, but Chelsea will be expected to protect the player and follow protocol.

Christensen will be a massive miss for Chelsea as the 21-year-old has established himself one half of the club’s No.1 centre-back pairing.

The defender is ahead of David Luiz in the pecking order, with the Brazilian coming on to replace his team-mate against Brighton.

It has not been officially confirmed if Christensen did suffer a concussion.

Christensen’s head injury comes hot on the heels of Thibaut Courtois picking up an ankle issue.

The goalkeeper missed the game against Brighton and may not be fit in time to face Arsenal on Wednesday.
