Arsenal are set to battle it out with Barcelona for Portuguese wonderkid Pedro Neto — touted as a future superstar by Jose Mourinho.

According to Portuguese media outlet A Bola, the Gunners have already had a £13million bid for the highly-rated starlet rejected by Braga.

Neto, who has been watched closely by Manchester United boss Mourinho, has a £17.5m release clause in his contract and his club will not even consider discussing a deal unless it is met.

Barca are reportedly ready to activate the clause but Arsenal will not give up after seeing the prospect break into Braga's first team last season.

French giants Monaco could also swoop having previously snapped up Manchester City new-boy Bernardo Silva, who caught the club's eye while playing for Benfica's B team.

The Ligue 1 side need to strengthen and can offer Neto a greater chance of first-team football than Arsenal, Barcelona and United.

Neto has featured for Portugal at both Under-17 and Under-18 level and his club believe he is good enough to lead the line for his country in the future.
