David De Gea to Real Madrid is a transfer that's been talked about for years - and one that very nearly happened in 2015.

Manchester United fans have never loved a fax machine so much since.

Despite remaining silent over a move, De Gea's ties with Madrid, along with the chance to play for the European giants, could still prove too much.

And now reports over a move have resurfaced , it's once again time to look at who Jose Mourinho would bring in for the Spainard.

But who is out there in the market? And how much will they set the Red Devils back?

Here's a look at potential De Gea replacements...

Jan Oblak

Atletico Madrid

Value: £30m

Antoine Griezmann wasn't the only Atletico Madrid player linked with a move to United this summer.

A brilliant shot-stopper and commanding in the air, he is seasoned beyond his 24 years.

He would arrive at Old Trafford a more complete keeper than De Gea was when he joined in 2011, aged 20.

But Atletico will be under no pressure to sell.

Kasper Schmeichel

Leicester

Value: £20m

It would be something of a fairytale if the 30-year-old followed in his father Peter’s footsteps at United.

The Dane was a key figure in Leicester’s famous Premier League title winning campaign, making a catalogue of match-winning displays.

Proven in English football, he would represent little risk at all - and he’s won the title more recently than United.

Looks like an ideal option - and a gettable one too.

Hugo Lloris

Tottenham Hotspur

Value: £35m

Daniel Levy and Mauricio Pochettino would be reluctant to let their prized keeper go, but the Frenchman could very well force a move.

L'Equipe's number one recently said he understands Danny Rose's wish for more money, and could be persuaded by the promise of a higher weekly salary at Old Trafford.

Premier League proven but prone to the occasional error. Mourinho would have to decide if a hefty price would be worth paying.

Gianluigi Donnarumma

AC Milan

Value: £88m

It looked for all the world as though AC Milan's prodigal son was going to leave this summer, but the Italian performed a stunning U-turn and agreed to sign a new deal.

At 18, Donnarumma will go on to become one of Italy's highest paid players.

But there are reports an £88m buyout clause has been inserted into the Italian's contract, and United have the money.

This transfer would depend on if Mourinho can afford to wait for the teenager to develop - or would he require instant success?

Keylor Navas

Real Madrid

Value: £20m

When De Gea nearly moved to Real Madrid in 2015, the transfer involved Navas heading the other way.

This is still a viable option for United - especially as the Costa Rican has since established himself as a Santiago Bernabeu favourite.

With Champions League experience to his name the Los Blancos shot-stopper would represent little risk.

Bonus pick - Sergio Romero

Manchester United

A bonus pick, because this is a very real option. Mourinho has publicly backed the Argentine on more than one occasion and shown plenty of faith in the keeper - playing him in the Europa League final.

Romero has done a commendable job when filling in for De Gea, and could easily stand in full-time.
