Arsenal vs Liverpool is almost always a classic, whoever is on the pitch. But sometimes those people on the pitch probably shouldn't even be there.

For whatever reasons - and while they might have been good players elsewhere - these two have had some utterly awful performers down the years, and those players have turned out in this most illustrious of fixtures between two of English football's elite.

But who are they?

Well, we're not only going to name and shame them, we've made a team out of them.

These two don't make it in (

Here we go.

(The good team, by the way, is here).

Goalkeeper: Brad Jones

Why are you so happy, Brad? (

Alex Livesey)

For a time, Brendan Rodgers was weirdly obsessed with putting the Australian in goal as a kick up the backside to Simon Mignolet, which obviously never worked.

Jones played in a madcap 2-2 draw between the Reds and the Gunners in December 2014, during which he looked like a statue for the two Gunners goals.

Defender: Nick Tanner

There he is, second from the right (

Often described as one of Liverpool's worst ever players - perhaps harshly - Tanner played in the first ever Premier League meeting between the sides in August 1992.

Arsenal won 2-0.

Defender: Scott Marshall

Asprilla could never handle the old 'backside in the face' technique (

Liverpool used to routinely see off the Gunners at Anfield in mid-90s, and Robbie Fowler was in ruthless form in December 1995 when he plundered a hat-trick.

As for Marshall, he came on as a substitute in that game, immediately lost Fowler and allowed him to run through for his second goal.

Stellar stuff for this team.

Defender: Ignasi Miquel

He didn't often get on the pitch (

Stuart MacFarlane)

Clearly a gifted young defender, Miquel's big break with the Gunners arrived early in the 2011/12 season, but he chose to make a complete hash of it.

Attempting to clear under pressure from Luis Suarez in the 78th minute of a clash with Liverpool at the Emirates, he instead hit the ball straight into Aaron Ramsey and watched in horror as it looped in.

Defender: David Grondin

Yep, that's what he looked like (

A staple on those "Arsene Wenger's worst ever signings" lists, French full-back Grondin started in a goalless draw against Liverpool in January 1999.

It was one of just four Gunners appearances.

Midfielder: Jimmy Carter (c)

Not very presidential (

A rarity in this team in that he actually played for both clubs (thereby making him our captain) the man with the presidential name didn't exactly make anything great again for either club.

Carter played against his former side in Liverpool's 1-0 win at Highbury in 1993.

Midfielder: Emmanuel Frimpong

He's under there somewhere (

Yeah yeah, DENCH and all that, but Frimpong also managed 16 appearances for the Gunners between 2011 and 2012.

And one of those included him booting Lucas Leiva up in the air to receive a red card against Liverpool at the Emirates, with the Reds going on to win 2-0.

More bench than dench.

Midfielder: Joe Cole

Who, me?

Now before you start, we KNOW that Joe Cole was a fine player, but if we're talking about Arsenal vs Liverpool rubbishness here then he simply has to be in the team.

It was in August 2010 that Cole made his Reds debut against the Gunners, only to be promptly sent off just before half-time.

So before you get angry, remember that.

Midfielder: Alberto Mendez

As good as it got (

If you were looking at that worst Wenger signings list which included Grondin, then it would probably have Alberto Mendez on it too. Maybe higher up.

The German never made anything like an impact at Arsenal, and played in the much-changed Gunners side which lost 4-0 at Anfield just days after winning the league in 1998.

Forward: Milan Jovanovic

Not falling over (

We're not allowed to host match footage on here, so you'll have to head over to YouTube to find out why the Serbian is in our team thanks to a fine cameo in the 1-1 draw between Liverpool and Arsenal in August 2010.

Just look at that. Glorious.

Forward: Jeremie Aliadiere

A tough one, but Aliadiere makes it

It was a tough call for the other forward, because both have had some shockers, but Aliadiere makes it purely because of the complete randomness of his start at Anfield in a league clash in 2003.

It was possibly the closest thing Wenger made to a mistake in his 'Invincibles' season, even though Arsenal still won.

What a shocking bunch!
