Liverpool and Manchester United had to settle for a point after a goalless draw at Anfield.

Billed as one of the biggest games of the Premier League season so far, neither side was able to break the deadlock.

The home side, missing the injured Sadio Mane, had the better of the chances but were unable to find a way past David de Gea in the United goal.

Jurgen Klopp threw on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Daniel Sturridge and Dominic Solanke but it proved to be in vain.

At the other end, Romelu Lukaku endured a frustrating afternoon in front of goal.

Here, we rate the players on both sides...

Liverpool

Mignolet 7

Important save just before the interval, had so little to do for so much of game

Gomez 6

Gave everything in trying to overlap and create space, strong in defence too

Matip 7

So very nearly proved Reds hero, but denied by De Gea, looked composed on ball

Lovren 6

Given tough time by Lukaku's bulk, but kept at it, even though looked troubled

Moreno 6

Bit of an enigma. Capable of good things, but loses concentration too easily

Alberto Moreno lacked consistency (

Wijnaldum 7

Started on fire, and looked like could be difference, but faded as game dulled

Henderson 7

Kept his side at it and working forward, and big role in making this team tick

Can 7

One half chance just after break, looked good in getting forward, stepped up

Salah 8

Most dangerous player and rammed Chelsea experience down Mourinho throat. MOM

Firmino 6

Always looked just about to catch fire, never quite did, but still showed moments

Coutinho 6

Has to go a little too deep in games like this, and that raises a few questions

Subs:

Oxlade-Chamberlain 6 (Salah, 78)

Sturridge 6 (Coutinho, 78)

Solanke 6 (Firmino, 88)

Manchester United

De Gea 7

Fine save from Matip in first half to prove he's best in League...United's best ever keeper?

Valencia 6

Like many United players, seems to have bulked up massively under Mourinho. Solid unit

Smalling 7

Booked. Apparently manager not his biggest fan, but ability to come into huge game calmly is key

Jones 8

Outstanding. Used his size and (new found) strength to hold Liverpool at arms length

Darmian 6

Mourinho shut up shop and that saw full backs sit incredibly deep – played that role well

Young 6

Hard work down the flank, mostly running back, which was precisely why he was selected

Hererra 6

Fouled for fun because was allowed to get away with it, and did his job to perfection

Matic 6

Had one job to do, and did it with his usual impeccable precision. Defend, defend, defend.

Martial 6

Looked distinctly unhappy being asked to play virtually as a wing back, but worked very hard

Anthony Martial started but was played out of position (

Mkhitaryan 6

Touches of class around the box, played behind the striker and lurked with menace

Lukaku 6

Spent most of the game seething at the lack of service, but caused problems without it

Subs :

Lingard 6 (Mkhitaryan 63)

Rashford 6 (Martial 65)

Lindelof 6 (Young 90)

Ref : Martin Atkinson 6
