Premier League leaders Manchester City moved five points clear atop the Premier League with a 3-0 win over Huddersfield.

Pep Guardiola called upon fit-again Sergio Aguero and the Argentine responded by scoring the opener, from the penalty spot, on his return to the City lineup.

That goal wasn't without controversy however, the Clarets furious with Bernardo Silva after he won the decision under a challenge from keeper Nick Pope.

Dyche's side are nothing if not game however, and even after losing Chris Wood to injury kept fighting for a stakehold in the game.

However, two goals in two second half minutes ended their resistance, with Leroy Sane involved in both.

First, with 17 minutes remaining, Sane's delivery from the left was met by Nicolas Otamendi, who towered above Ben Mee and powered home.

Two minutes later, another in a growing list of sumptuous defence-splitting passes by Kevin de Bruyne found the jet-heeled Sane, who coolly converted in the Manchester rain.

That result pushes City's winning run to 11 games in all competitions, and, coupled with Manchester United's defeat at Huddersfield, sees Guardiola's men take charge of the Premier League.

All the action, as it happened, below...

Starting lineups

Man City:Ederson, Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Delph, Fernandinho, Bernardo, Silva (C), De Bruyne, Sane, Aguero

Burnley:Pope, Lowton, Tarkowski, Mee, Ward, Arfield, Cork, Hendrick, Defour, Brady, Wood.

And that is that.

Two in quick succession for City.

That is where they have been so dangerous this season, scoring goals in quick succession.

It’s harsh on Burnley.

Everything is going to plan for City.

They lead here and United are TWO down at Huddersfield.

As things stand, they will be five clear of their rivals.

Goalless at the Etihad.

Burnley have an excellent record on the road so far this term.

They’ve won at Chelsea and Everton and drew at Liverpool and Spurs.

This would be the best of the lot though.

Pep Guardiola says scintillating Manchester City will suffer a slump at some point — but is sure they won’t crumble like last season.

City have been in devastating form so far and remain unbeaten in all competitions.

They head into Saturday’s clash with Burnley at the Eithad on the back of a 7-2 league victory over Stoke last weekend and a 2-1 midweek defeat of Serie A leaders Napoli in the Champions League.

Guardiola labelled the former display as “the best performance” of his tenure, and the latter as “perfect.”

City also flew out of the blocks last season as they chalked up 10 wins on the bounce — before their form nosedived.

In their next six games they drew three and lost three and were never quite able to recapture their brilliant early-season form.

However, Guardiola is confident his Premier League table-toppers will react better to any setbacks this time round.
