Liverpool ran riot on the south coast as the Reds hit Bournemouth for four to move into the Champions League spots.

Goals from Philippe Coutinho, Dejan Lovren, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino were enough to give Jurgen Klopp's side all three points.

Coutinho's solo effort started the rout before Lovren bravely headed home to double their advantage.

Salah added another wonderful goal to his collection before the break and Firmino completed the rout by glancing home Coutinho's cross in the second half.

Here are five talking points from the game...

1. Brilliant Coutinho unlocks Cherries defence

Phillipe Coutinho’s individual piece of brilliance broke the deadlock in the 20th minute.

The Brazilian embarked on a mazy run from 30-yards out, weaving his way past the Bournemouth defence before firing his firing his effort into the bottom corner.

2. King's injury does for Bournemouth

Josh King was forced off the pitch in the first-half for Bournemouth which took away a large part of their attacking threat.

He had enjoyed early success against Dejan Lovern in the Liverpool defence with his pace and power.

His injury also made it a longer afternoon for Jermain Defoe up top after being left isolated for large parts of the game.

3. Abject defending from hosts

Bournemouth were at sixes and sevens (

Bournemouth's defending was abject when Jordan Henderson’s corner was allowed to be flicked back across the face of goal twice.

Georginio Wijnaldum got the first touch which took the ball to the back post before Roberto Firmino then knocked it back across the face of goal, leaving Dejan Lovren to nod in.

4. Defoe spurns golden chance

Jermain Defoe should have got the south coast side back into the tie when he was played in by substitute Junior Stanislas.

The veteran striker had no one in his way except for Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet but he could only strike his effort on to the base of the post to add to his side's woes.

5. Firmino kills off Cherries

Roberto Firmino killed off any chance of a comeback from Bournemouth when he netted Liverpool’s fourth of the game.

He was picked out with a perfect delivery from fellow Brazilian Coutinho.

The Liverpool striker then made no mistakes when he headed it past Asmir Begovic in the Cherries goal.
