Harry Kane continued his stunning September as ten-man Tottenham held off a late West Ham fightback to win on the road once again.

Spurs striker Kane struck twice to make it eight goals in five games for club and country this month after failing to find the net once in August.

Kane, who took his club tally to six in four games, was also involved in Spurs' third, scored by Christian Eriksen, before Javier Hernandez's consolation and Cheikhou Kouate scored either side of Serge Aurier's sending off.

And Spurs' derby victory made it the first time since 1991 that they had started the season with three successive away wins.

West Ham started strongly but were disrupted when Michail Antonio was forced off with a groin injury in the 28 minute and seven minutes later his replacement Andy Carroll had a hand in Spurs' opener.

Carroll's misplace pass inside was intercepted by Christian Eriksen who put Dele Alli through down the right. He crossed for Kane to head in his first of the game.

Four minutes later the England duo combined again to double Spurs' lead when Alli's shot was saved by Joe Hart but the rebound fell perfectly for Kane to tap in his second.

Kane was inches away from a hat-trick for the second time when he smashed a 59 minute free-kick against the post but they didn't have to wait long for a third as West Ham failed to clear and Eriksen swept in Serge Aurier's deflected cross.

After Kane struck the post again Hernandez nodded in Jose Fonte's flick on to make it 3-1 before Aurier saw red after being shown a second yellow in six minutes.

Kouyate then thumped home a header from sub Arthur Masuaku to set up a grandstand finish but Spurs held on.
