Aaron Ramsey appeared to hit out at Arsenal for allowing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to join Liverpool - but it was all a misunderstanding.

The Welsh midfielder took to Instagram to wish his fellow midfielder well as he joined the Reds, ending his message with the hashtag #shaaambles.

Plenty took that to mean that he was hitting out at the club for allowing a player to join a Premier League rival, but it has emerged that that was Oxlade-Chamberlain's tongue-in-cheek nickname at the club.

He later edited it to remove the hashtag.

Ramsey later deleted the #shaaambles hashtag (

Ramsey's original full message read: "Another of our British boys heading on to new things.

"Not only have we lost a great player we've lost a great guy in the changing room and It is sad to see you go mate. Had some great memories over the years playing along side you and I wish you all the best with this new chapter in your life. #TheOx #shaaambles."

Oxlade-Chamberlain completed a £40m switch to Liverpool on Thursday, and plenty thought that this was Ramsey's anger spilling over.

However, it has emerged that the nickname "Shambles" was given to Oxlade-Chamberlain by Per Mertesacker because of his continued lateness.

Defender Rob Holding recently revealed this in interview with Sky's Soccer AM.

Ramsey and Oxlade-Chamberlain were both seen as part of Arsenal's "British core" when they signed new deals in 2012 along with Kieran Gibbs, who has left for West Brom, Carl Jenkinson, who has joined Birmingham on loan, and Jack Wilshere, who could be set for a second loan deal in two seasons.

Ramsey later tweeted to confirm that he was referring to Oxlade-Chamberlain's nickname.

We wrote: "Let's all calm down, 'Shaaambles' was a nickname used as a joke for the ox sometimes around the training ground. #personaljoke"
