Arsene Wenger insists he is prepared to stand firm over Alexis Sanchez despite Manchester City's injury woes.

Premier League leaders lost Gabriel Jesus and Kevin De Bruyne to injury in their New Year's Eve draw at Crystal Palace.

City boss Pep Guardiola now intends to discuss a possible fresh bid for Sanchez after their game at home to Watford on Tuesday.

Gunners contract rebel Sanchez is a free agent in the summer when he can walk away from the Emirates for nothing.

Guardiola may now bid to try to tempt Arsenal into cashing in on the star this month after failing to land Sanchez last summer.

But boss Wenger continues to insist he is determined to keep the Chilean for the rest of his contract as he has previously stated.

Wenger felt Sanchez underlined his worth again on Sunday after praising his performance as “fantastic” in the 1-1 draw at West Brom.

Sanchez, 29, scored his ninth of the season with a deflected free-kick.

Now despite the window opening, Wenger dismissed claims it could prove Sanchez's last game for Arsenal.

Wenger, whose side host Chelsea later this week, replied: “We play on Wednesday night.”

And he gave short shift to talk of City returning to attempt to prise Sanchez away this month.

The Frenchman responded: “I have spoken about that many times.

“I am not ready to talk about that any more.

“I have given you my answer many many times in the press conferences.

“I don't see why I should come back on a subject I have talked about 155 times.”

Before leaving The Hawthorns, Wenger was also asked to assess Sanchez's display, he replied: “I think he was fantastic.”

After Sanchez's goal all Arsenal's outfield players celebrated it together after ex-star Thierry Henry, now a TV pundit, claimed a previous celebration at Crystal Palace showed a split in the camp.
