Alexis Sanchez is out of Arsenal's Premier League opener.

The Chilean international, who returned to training after an extended summer break last week, is suffering with an abdominal strain, Arsene Wenger has confirmed.

Sanchez, 28, has been eyeing a move away from the Emirates, but has grown increasingly resigned recently that he will be seeing out the final year of his contract in north London - despite a desire to reunite with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Last season's top scorer watched from the sidelines as the Gunners won the Community Shield on Sunday, and it had been hoped he would be ready to face Leicester on Friday night.

However, he will not be risked, following a scan earlier this week.

“Sanchez will not be available. He had a little abdominal strain that he caught on Sunday morning in training.

"He had the scan two days ago. He’s out for I don’t know."

Asked about Sanchez's mood, Wenger responded: “He is focused. When you have treatment on the medical bench it’s not easy.”

The Sanchez saga has continued throughout the summer, with PSG also interested in the South American. Bayern Munich shelved plans to sign him after reckoning the cost to be too much.

Asked whether there have been any offers, Wenger reaffirmed Arsenal have no interest in selling.

“I cannot tell you that," he added. “We are not open to any offers anyway.”
