Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez revealed he is incredibly "happy" to become Chile's all-time top goalscorer.

The 28-year-old opened up the scoring in Chile's 1-1 Confederations Cup draw with Germany on Thursday night.

Sanchez prodded home in off the left post to put his side ahead after just six minutes.

The goal meant Sanchez overtook Marcelo Salas to stand alone as Chile's leading goalscorer with 38.

Germany equalised just before the interval through Lars Stindl, a goalless second half meant the game ended in a draw.

Speaking after the game, Sanchez said: "It makes me very happy and the truth is that we have the desire, as you said, to win the cup; the players are focused to win it.

"And now we have to rest, we have a game on Sunday and I think that we have to start with the same mentality as we did today."

Chile next face Australia on Sunday, needing only a draw to progress into the semi-finals of the competition.
