Alexis Sanchez's return to the Arsenal team counted for little, as the Chilean played only 62 minutes during the Gunners woeful 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield.

The Chilean's first appearance of the season came following his extended break following Chile's Confederations Cup exploits and an abominable injury amid near-constant speculation speculation over his future at the club.

And he didn't take long to show his intent, as he provided the first real chance of the match when he showed quick feet and excellent close control to surge through the middle and find an off-balance Danny Welbeck, who fired over.

The Gunners failed to build on that chance as Liverpool grew into the game and would take the lead on 17 minutes thought Robert Firmino.

As the half wore on Sanchez looked to force his way into the game, dropping back to harry Liverpool midfielders, but to little effect.

He had delivered in a free-kick from a dangerous position on the left-hand side just before the half-hour but Lorus Karius was able to bat it away without any dramas.

The Chilean would continue to toil and look to bring his team-mates into the game, but he would be let down by their movement and it felt like it was only a matter of time before Liverpool struck again, as Mane netted Liverpool's second before the break.

Arsene Wenger shuffled his pack at half-time but it didn't take long for Liverpool to add a third.

Sanchez's expression was worth a thousand words as he sunk to the turf following the shambolic scenes that led to Mo Salah's goal and within five minutes he was subbed off by Wenger.

The 28-year-old then hid his face underneath his shirt after returning to the bench. A happy man he was not.

With four days left of the transfer window, it probably doesn't take a mind reader to figure out what was going through his head.
