Chelsea star Alvaro Morata has revealed the reason why he rejected an offer from Manchester United and made the decision to join the west London club.

Morata was strongly linked with a move to Old Trafford and the chance to join up with Jose Mourinho once again.

But the Spanish forward reveals how the influence of Antonio Conte persuaded him to put pen to paper on a club record deal for the Premier League champions.

Chelsea switched their attentions to Morata after missing out on a move for Romelu Lukaku who signed for Manchester United.

And the £70million marksman is now determined to repay the faith that Conte has shown in him and fire the goals to help Chelsea retain their Premier League crown.

Morata, speaking in the Daily Mail, said: "I had various offers this summer, not only Chelsea and Manchester United but also from different leagues. It was a good situation for me.

"The most important and best conversation I had was with Conte, he wanted me to come here. I felt in debt to him. He signed me for Juventus but left very quickly to manage Italy. I always wanted to play for him after that.

"At the start of the summer, I didn't know that Chelsea were interested in me. I thought they were in for a different player, maybe Lukaku or maybe someone else, I don't know. I didn't think the option of Chelsea was open."
