Antonio Conte hinted he does not 'respect' Jose Mourinho after the pair failed to shake hands following Chelsea's victory over Manchester United.

Conte and Mourinho have had a strained relationship and as the Italian celebrated with his backroom staff, the United boss appeared to wait for him on the touchline.

But the Special One eventually lost patience, and the pair didn't partake in the traditional post-match pleasantries.

While playing down the non-handshake, Conte pinpointed the element of 'respect' when quizzed on it.

“It’s not important. It’s important to win the game," the Chelsea boss told Sky Sports.

"You have to have the respect on the pitch not outside the pitch.”

Mourinho also downplayed the incident, saying: "He disappeared, I shook the hand of his assistant which is basically the same thing."

Alvaro Morata's second-half header sealed all three points for the Blues, and means Manchester City now have an eight-point cushion at the top of the Premier League.

Conte added: "It’s an important victory. When you play against Manchester United it’s always a massive game. We know very well this team is very strong.

"This type of win is important for our confidence. We showed great desire and passion to win this kind of game.

“We can win or lose but our spirit must be this. Last season our spirit was in every game – we started this season with a lot of problems. We were up and down. This game showed if we want we can."
