Antonio Conte has warned Chelsea will need to go into next summer's window with a clear plan after deadline day was brought forward.

The Premier League's clubs voted to move deadline day to 5pm on the Thursday before the 2018/19 season starts rather than the end of August.

For the second season running Chelsea have been active right up until the deadline to bolster their squad.

Last year David Luiz and Marcos Alonso arrived on the final day of the window.

This season it was Davide Zappacosta and Danny Drinkwater, while a late move for Ross Barkley also fell through.

Conte admits Chelsea will have to work to avoid a similar late rush for signings after the deadline day date move.

He said: “If you have a correct plan, a correct programme, I don't see a problem.

“For sure, if you wait until the end of the transfer market, you could have problems. But if you have a plan and your ideas are very clear, I don't see a problem.”

The argument against moving the date was that English clubs would be at a disadvantage compared to their European rivals.

While Premier League sides won't be able to buy players after the deadline, they can still sell and will be vulnerable to approaches.

But Conte said: “If you have a programme and a plan, and this plan is very clear, it's not important to wait until the end of the window to sell your players.

“If you decide in the right time that these players are to stay in your squad, remain in your squad, I don't see any problems about this.”
