Arsenal defender Calum Chambers has signed a two-year contract extension at the Emirates Stadium, keeping him at the club until 2021.

The 22-year-old centre-back - who spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough - has made 60 appearances for the Gunners since joining from Southampton in the summer of 2014.

He's played just once this season though, in the 1-0 victory over Doncaster Rovers in the third round of the Carabao Cup, but is believed to have impressed Arsene Wenger since returning to the club in the summer.

Chambers - who has three senior England caps - could be needed in the coming weeks after Gunners centre-back Shkodran Mustafi sustained a hamstring injury on international duty with Germany.

The centre-back played 24 times for Boro in the Premier League last season, but was unable to save the Teessiders from relegation.

Arsenal rejected an offer from Leicester City for his services on transfer deadline day.

Chambers took to Twitter after the deal, writing: "Proud to sign a new contract with @arsenal. I know I'm still a young player and I want to have my best years players for this football club.

"I want to win as many trophies with Arsenal as possible. I'm going to repay the fans for the faith they've shown in me. Can't wait to get going again."
