Arsenal have confirmed they have snapped up Borussia Dortmund scout Sven Mislintat - and still want to make another big appointment.

Mirror Sport revealed the behind-the-scenes shake-up two weeks ago and Mislintat will now join next month after Arsenal agreed a £1.8m compensation deal and £1.5m-a-year contract.

Mislintat, 45, is credited with scouting the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Shinji Kagawa and Ousmane Dembele and has one of the best reputations in Europe.

But it is understood that Arsenal still want to bring in another senior figure to tie up recruitment, scouting and contracts but it will not be Dortmund’s highly-rated Michael Zorc. It is likely to be a sporting director role but the title has yet to be confirmed.

Dortmund director Sascha Fligge said: “We would liked to have kept him (Mislintat). He has been doing great scouting work with Zorc over the last ten years. He helped and improved scouting at the club, made it more professional.

“We have a very good relationship with him and because of what he achieved, we decided this morning that we would release him.” On Zorc, Fligge added: "Those are just rumours, he is not leaving."

Arsene Wenger added: “We are delighted that Sven is joining us. Identifying and developing talent is a core part of our philosophy and Sven has an outstanding track record over many years. We look forward to him taking our existing recruitment approach forwards.”

Mirror Sport understands that Wenger also persuaded highly-respected and chief scout Steve Rowley to stay on a consultancy basis and the Arsenal boss is fiercely loyal to his trusted inner circle.

It is not yet certain whether Rowley will stay on in some capacity or leave next summer but he has been at the club for more than 25 years and helped uncover the likes of Tony Adams and Ray Parlour.
