Arsenal fans are a little baffled Arsene Wenger has picked Danny Welbeck to play ahead of Alexis Sanchez for their game against Bournemouth.

Gunners fans had expected the Chilean to start the club's fourth Premier League fixture of the season following the international break.

The 28-year-old had wanted to leave north London this summer, with Manchester City his preferred destination.

The Citizens even made a huge Deadline Day bid for his services but were unable to get the deal over the line as Arsenal couldn't sign a replacement in time.

After representing his nation in World Cup qualifying this week, Sanchez took to social media twice to prove to Arsenal fans his head is in the right place.

He posted two images of himself on Instagram, one showing his name and number in an Arsenal kit and the other him interacting with Gunners fans.

Alongside the two images the forward wrote: "Back home" and "Focus" suggesting he has now put the transfer saga behind him.

What's more, Nacho Monreal was singing his praises on the club's official website.

"It's good news for Arsenal in general, for the fans, for the players, for the club in general that Alexis is staying here," said the Spaniard.

"He's the most important player for us.

"All we can offer to the fans is that in the next game, from the first minute, we start with intensity, make a good game, get the three points and everything will come back as before.

"Alexis is very competitive. He doesn't want to lose any sport. He's always trying to win, he always gives his maximum, 100 per cent effort in every single training session.

"He's going to be very important for us for the rest of the season."

But despite all of this the 28-year-old will be watching the action from the bench this afternoon - at least initially. And Gunners fans can't understand why.
