Arsenal are continuing their behind-the-scenes shake-up with the club set to appoint a sporting director.

It is understood the Gunners ' newcomer will not be the director of football manager Arsene Wenger has long resisted but will help oversee negotiations, transfers and contracts.

Chief executive Ivan Gazidis said last season there would be a “catalyst for change” and a major reshuffle at the north London club.

That has already seen them bring in legal and commercial expert Huss Fahmy from cycling heavyweights Team Sky.

More changes are now taking place as the club look to shake-up their transfer dealings.

Transfer fixer Dick Law’s contract expired in September but he is expected to carry on doing some work until a new man comes in.

Long-serving chief scout Steve Rowley - credited with bringing through a generation of talent including Tony Adams and Ray Parlour - is undecided on his future but has a huge reputation within the game.

Gazidis has already succeeded in more than doubling Arsenal’s football staff and the recruitment process will continue with this new appointment, although the actual title is yet to be confirmed.
