Arsenal fans have been on a self-assigned scouting mission ever since it was announced that Mesut Ozil could be off in January.

And it seems that the international break provided the perfect chance for many to take a look at some Gunners targets in action.

Arsenal broke their club transfer record to land Ozil from Real Madrid back in 2013, but he could be set to depart in just the next few months.

The German's contract will expire at the end of the season, and it seems Arsene Wenger is willing to move him on for money in January as opposed to lose him on a free transfer at a later date.

Ozil will be a huge miss for the Gunners - despite sometimes struggling to maintain top form in an Arsenal shirt - if he does decide to leave.

And fans of the north London club will be expecting to sign a replacement for the 28-year-old, if they are to achieve a top-four finish.

Some have looked at Jack Wilshere as the man ready to fill the German's shoes.

The 25-year-old, who has incredible potential but has suffered with injury throughout his career, recently returned for the Gunners and has performed well.

It may take some time for the England midfielder to convince everyone at the Emirates that he is the right man to take Arsenal forward, but a good run in the first team could do exactly that.

Another potential replacement for Ozil is his fellow countryman - a Gunners target - Leon Goretzka, who plays for Schalke.

The 22-year-old has made eight appearances for the Bundesliga club in both the league and German Cup this season, and has netted twice.

But he really caught the eye in Germany's two World Cup qualifying matches this week, as the four-time winners of the competition, beat Northern Ireland 3-1 and Azerbaijan 5-1.

In the latter game Goretzka got on the scoresheet twice, and it seems that Arsenal supporters would be more than happy to recruit the young talent.
